General Description
Reflecting cultural influences from the Caribbean, Italy and South African, the interior design takes advantage of focal elements such as the bright light from the living area oriel and fine dark wooden floors to create a warm, inviting well-lit space. Also designed for function, with the convenience of modern appliances in the kitchen, ample seating, comfortable sleeping quarters and a spacious bath.
The Living Room
Panoramic windows are the highlight of the living room. Four full-length panels create a point of interest and, because they are left unadorned, illuminate the space with natural light. The room is decorated in light colored walls and a white couch, adding to the brightness of the space. A small round table with four chairs is placed in near the oriel; in addition, the room contains a Plasma TV placed on a television stand with wheels, a red chaise lounge, coffee table, table stand with lamp on the far end of the couch and a small stand with drawer placed in front of the window. Red candles, black circular wall elements, red/black small throws hanging over each arm of the sofa and three Asian-inspired pieces of art hanging on the wall behind the sofa contrasted with a brightly colored Caribbean-influenced piece on the opposite side of the room – all work together to bring the entire design of the room together. In addition, two folding bar chairs are placed in front of the bar the separated the living room from the kitchen.
The Kitchen
A well-lit bar with wooden counter top separates the living room and kitchen, which is accessed through a door in the wall toward the end of the bar. The kitchen is simple in design; frosted windows are above the sink with cabinet storage below; on the marble countertop are a blender, microwave, toaster and juicer.
The Bedroom
A combination of light from a large window with white curtains and lamps with elegant lampshades create a soft atmosphere against the room’s yellow walls; the space is ideal for unwinding with a book while curled up on an armchair on the far side of the room or relaxing in the comfortable double bed. The room also contains Asian-influenced art, a display of Spanish fans placed on the shelves of an inset bookshelf and other decorative elements that pull the room together.
The Bathroom
Simple white tiles don the walls of the bathroom, which contains ample counter space, a large mirror, storage for towels and toiletries and a bathtub. Beneath the washbasin are a washing machine and draining board.
The Area/Environment
Nearby are the Moulin Rouge and Sacre Cœur Basillica, famous for entertainment and architecture respectively. Historically appealing to artists, Montmartre continues to attract those interested in experiencing the diversity of Parisian culture; within the vicinity of the 18th area are a multitude of cafes, restaurant and bars, of which residents can sample a rich variety of beverages.
